Music for a jeweller studio

Music for a jeweller studio

I don't naturally enjoy running, but I once managed to build the habit of running several times a week. The trick for me was music. I created playlists where music meant run and birdsong meant now you may walk, and snap some photos if you want.

That’s when I started making mixed playlists. I wanted to surprise my ears and have my brain jump from pop and klezmer to funk and folk, as long as it had the kind of energy I needed. It was confusing to hear birds singing in the middle of the winter, but the concept worked.

It takes love over gold and mind over matter to do what you do that you must
[Dire Straits]

We won’t stop running til we get that something golden, golden
[Cory Wong]

I no longer run, but I'm gathering music again. This time to spoil my brain with jewellery-ish tunes. Songs about Jewellery, Gold, Silver, Diamonds, The Crown and Gemstones. Call it a handmade jewellery nerd algorithm, if you like.

I’m gonna take that path I’m going on my own
I’m gonna take that fear and wear it like a crown

[Rebekka Karijord]

Looking for music on a theme is a way to discover new bands and artists. It's also a reminder to focus on the lyrics. When do artists sing about gold? In what kind of stories does silver play a role? What more are diamonds, other than a girl’s best friend? And who are all the Ruby girls?

Rock on, Gold Dust Woman
Take your silver spoon, dig your grave

[Fleetwood Mac]

When you hold me, I'm alive, we're like diamonds in the sky
[Rihanna]

My brother, let the hard stuff be
and wear your silver lining, wear it close to your skin
[Mt. Joy]

Goodbye, Ruby Tuesday
Who could hang a name on you? When you change with every new day
[The Rolling Stones]

All in all, the songs I’ve found go to show – again – that jewellery and precious stones and metals are part of our lives. Always have been, always will be. On galeriaredelius on Spotify, you find hours of songs about life and death, love and jealousy, rise and fall, fear and bravery, wealth and poverty, dreams and disappointments. There is upbeat and melancholy. In short, life as we know it. The situations we find ourselves in, the questions we ask.

She asked me, Son, when I grow old, will you buy me a house of gold?
[Twenty One Pilots]

So, more than just music for a jeweller studio, it's music about us. Are you ready for some jewellery-ish life stories? You're hereby invited, come listen and enjoy!
